flyer for a fundraising event in Secondlife

This Friday through Sunday there is going to be a fundraising event for the national Alliance on Mental Illness. A friend of mine has been working very hard for the past couple of months to get a sim and schedule of DJs and events together to raise money for this organization. It’s a retro-themed sim and weekend with all sorts of fun events to raise money such as a car wash, kissing booth, burlesque show, photo contest and date auction.

Not only will I be the OPENING DJ, but I am also participating in the car wash, kissing booth and date auction events. So come donate to a great grassroots organization to give me a smooch or see me all wet in a bikini ;-) Or if you are really looking to have a good time, come buy me for a date! Hahaha.

A schedule of the DJs:

Oh yeah – my DJ set is themed – “Surf’s Up!” and will be a lot of fun old surf classics from groups such as the Beach Boys, Dan & Jean and the Surfaris. So come ready to dance and have fun in your best retro surf wear!  http://slurl.com/secondlife/Angora/42/141/21 I’m thinking I’ll have the set at the beach location :)

To enter the date auction we had to fill out an intimidating notecard. I’ll post what I wrote for your amusement.

I won’t be seeing you for a long while

July 4, 2009 at 22:00 (Uncategorized)

Hah, I’ve totally forgotten about this thing, haven’t I? I suppose it’s time to retire it. I don’t plan on DJing much anymore, nor of being on enough to have anything exciting happen. I have some commitments in-world coming up, but after that it’s really a toss up.

A pending move back into the parents’ house (with an increase in RL responsibilities) and another butchered SLove makes me think twice about my SL habits. I’ll try to get back into movies and television – maybe try to actually get into playing my PS3. :)

See ya around the block, folks. It’s been swell.

Well maybe a landslide will bring you down

June 16, 2009 at 20:03 (Musings, RLife)

Been a while, done a few sets in the time between posts, but not going to post them.  Graduated and stuff but there might be something weird happening with my degree audit, so that sucks.  Starting the process of packing up my apartment to move back home.  Going home Sunday for a couple weeks to visit California with the family then it’ll be back here until July 26th to pack it all up and make the big move once again.

When you are young, 25 seems ancient – like you will have everything all figured out and be settled and happy by then.  Then you get here and realize that few things have gone as planned and it’s likely to remain that way for the rest of your life.  It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it can be unsettling to think about – especially if you are used to being a naive optimist.

Some days even the most die-hard “chin-uppers” trip over their own feet and are forced to look at the hard ground rushing up to meet them.  And sometimes it’s actually a welcome feeling to have the earth securely under and around you, even if it hurts.

Everything else is up in the air for me right now (or everything I’ve ever planned or dreamed has come to a brutal truth), so it somehow feels right and comfortable to be utterly depressed. It will be hard to sleep tonight, and hard to get up in the morning, but I’m sure I’ll do it.  What else is there to do when you are stuck hating your life and the alternative, too?

Now some song lyrics.

Hold On ~ Razorlight
Well now you’re here you are in your life
And now you’re finding out why
You’ve got to learn how to fight
Before you learn how to fly

So stick your fist up, prove them wrong,
Don’t lose the words to the song
‘Cause it’s a long way down
I guess you know that by now

But if you hold on
Well, I will hold on too
And if you reach up,
Yeah, I will reach up too

Well now you’re here in your life
It’s such a long way down
Somehow you figure it out
So now you turn it around
But I know

But if you hold on,
Well, I will hold on too
And if you reach up,
Yeah, I will reach up too

Too…too.. too.

And one thing before you go
Just let everyone know
You refuse to regret it
Just like everyone said you would
Just like everyone knew you would

Just say that you can
Sleep at night
Just say that you get nervous
With the struggle you fight

You can’t believe what you’re told and you can’t be alone and you can’t let it go
And you can’t lose control and you know you are not just anyone
No you’re not just anyone

And if you hold on
Well, I will hold on too
And if you reach up… then I will reach up too
And if you hold on… and I will hold on too
And if you reach up…

Country Mile ~ Camera Obscura
Silver Birch against a Swedish sky
The singer in the band made me want to cry
We’re all inside our own heads now
We are leaving new friends
We are leaving this town
I wish you could be here with me
I would show you off like a trophy
The road it winds, it twists, it turns, now my stomach burns

Once again I’ll be the foolish one
Thinking a blink of these lashes would make you come
Don’t you worry, don’t get in a state
I don’t believe in true love anyway
Who’s being pessimistic now
I could document this as our first and our last row
The more you look forlorn, the more to you I warm

I won’t be seeing you for a long while
I hope it’s not as long as a country mile
I feel lost

I can’t see further than my own nose at this moment

May 18, 2009 at 17:33 (Music, RLife, SLife) (, , , , , , )

OK, yes, I have been terrible about posting in this thing.  I just haven’t felt like sitting down and concentrating enough to write.  Also, there was the little fact that I was in my last week of classes last week so my job responsibilities were high as well as all my final projects and stuff to do before graduation.

I never walked for undergrad because I was studying abroad, so my mother insisted I did for this one.  Which also meant cleaning or her arrival! Ugh.  It wasn’t too bad though and we ended up eating out both nights on her money, so yay! Also, the apartment is uberclean now and I basically have a whole lot of NOTHING to do for about a month.

Well, I suppose I could pack, but… yeah right!  Anyway, managed to throw a set together for last Monday night at the Crow’s Foot.  I hardly remember it at this point, aside that it had a theme where all the artists’ names had animals in them and that I think I didn;t actually play all of them…

Love is out there waiting somewhere

May 9, 2009 at 15:46 (Musings, RLife)

Oh, this is shaping up to be the best spring in a very long time.  On the ride of my life :) :D

In other news – watching a documentary about the Dixie Chicks after their “fall from grace” in 2003.  It’s painful to watch this because they are the only “country” group I’ve adored.  People in the US were so damn stupid for so damn long. >:(

I never even knew exactly what she said and I was apparently “I am ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas.”  OMFG, I can’t believe they were banned from the radios for years over that stupid comment.  GRAH… makes me so mad.

Oh yeah, it’s called “Shut Up & Sing” if you are interested :)

Keep on rockin’ me, baby

May 6, 2009 at 08:31 (Music, SLife)

So Monday was May 4th and on that day 39 years ago 4 students were shot and killed by state troopers during an Anti-War demonstration on campus.  In semi-honor of that, I decided my Crow’s Foot set would be all classic rock-type stuff.  The music roughly spanned the years from 1966-1975 and it was a kick-ass fun set to play!

In other news, not much else to say – the end of the semester is swiftly approaching and I have about a bajillion things to do.  My store idea for SL still hasn’t taken off and it seems like a combo of no interest from the public (since shapes seem to be the new fad creation right now), less money being spent on SL, and the summer slump of people beginning early.

There is an already noticeable decrease of attendance at certain venues and times and people are online much more sporadically than they used to be.  Happens every summer and it’s interesting to see who sticks it out and returns in the fall.

Back in black

May 4, 2009 at 10:12 (Uncategorized) (, , , )

Back from a weekend whirlwind! Went to be in BFFs wedding and it was beautiful and fun and I am soooo happy for her. I am also happy for me because that is the last wedding in the foreseeable future that I will be in. \o/

Also back to the grind at school, though :( I have a so much to do and so little time to do it in. Le sigh. That’s how I like it though because I bring it on myself, hehehe.

April 28, 2009 at 08:17 (Uncategorized)

Real Life totally sucks and is kicking my ass right now :( I didn’t do my set at Crow last night thanks to having a big projecty thing due today plus a help session for the students I tutor.

I’m in a wedding this weekend that I have to leave on Thursday to get to and I have a paper due Sunday… sucks major donkey balls.

No jobs, either – so it looks like I will be moving home this summer. *cries* I am so depressed. -_-

Our lips are sealed…

April 24, 2009 at 14:17 (Fashion, SLife) (, , , , , , , )

Actually, not anymore because this is a coming out party!  No, not in that way, I still enjoy my menfolk – but now I even have gone as far as to start creating pixel men shapes.  That’s right!  I have just started a business creating male avatar shapes.

No, they aren’t the big, V-shaped, sexy model hunks.  Well, not most of them.  I try to make them unique and somewhat realistic so that a person with the shape stands out as a unique individual.  I have some skinny ones and some chubby ones, some BIG ones and some athletic ones.  I even have one that looks like a teenager.

I think the best thing about it is that I get to be creative – I’ve found something else to do with my SL time aside from wander from club to club and moping and chatting.  I doubt I will ever make much of anything off the endeavor – newbs don’t want realistic shapes and oldbeesusually have made their own, to which they are attached.  However, I hope that with an XStreet presence and a small store in-world I might be able to make enough to recoup the expense of renting the in-world store and maybe pay rent for my SL land.

Future Endeavors?

The store is called .:{OddBallz}:. due to the unique nature of the shapes :)   I am really excited about it right now, but I am sure as the lack of sales starts to wear on me I will eventually not be as excited about it, haha.  Oh yes,  I also create and sell these things under an alt named Loren LittleBoots.  Boy, it’s fun top mess with people as a guy avatar…!

Anyway, the address for the XStreetSL listings is: https://uncensored.xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&MerchantID=277114

XStreet automatically tags shapes as having adult content, which I really despise, but oh well…
